From a foundation in western horsemanship, participants will learn and be able to execute basic horsemanship/equitation skills such as the stop and turn, then to apply those skills in various competitive and work-related formats, including gymkhana, cattle working, and the game of polocrosse – a game originally conceived of as a means of developing a more natural working seat while on horseback. There will be a culminating event(s) determined by the progress of participants that will challenge their newly developed horsemanship abilities to the fullest.
The instructor, Lachlan Clarke, has over thirty years in teaching applied horsemanship skills to students and horses of all ages. The program will be fun, challenging, and a true learning experience.
Applied Horsemanship is available for students grades 8-12. The program will be held at 100 Elk Outdoor Center located at the A/U Ranches – 18325 County Road #366 Buena Vista, CO 81211.
Registration Deadline: Monday, March 25
