No experience is necessary! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.\nCost: FREE!\nWhen: Sunday\, April 26th from 1:00-3:00pm\nMeeting location: West Side Dirt Parking Lot of the Buena Vista Community Center – 715 E Main St. Buena Vista Colorado\, 81211 \nBuena Vista Recreation is excited to announce the sixth annual Keeping Bewnie Buena! – BV Neighborhood Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Sunday\, April 26 from 1:00-3:00pm. Join your friends and family for a fun filled afternoon centered around cleaning up surface trash in and around the town of Buena Vista’s streets\, parks\, and open spaces. \n\n \nCommunity members can meet at the BV Community Center. All participants will check in at 1:00pm (pre-registered folks will receive a t-shirt at check in). We will divide into small working groups\, and you will be given a designated area to focus on. We will have options for locations to walk to or drive to. The Town of Buena Vista will provide a large trash receptacle at the parking lot of the Community Center for everyone to dispose of their clean-up bounty.\n \nAfter Party:  Join other volunteers for a celebration at the Eddyline Brewery and Pub\, featuring pizza (while supplies last) and discounted beverages.  3:00-4:00pm at 102 Linderman Ave.\n \nHow to prepare:\nBring your own gloves for clean up day\nFacilitators will have bags for folks to use at the meet-up location\nFeel free to bring your own TRDs (trash removal devices) and use your own waste bags if that is preferable\n \nWhy are we doing this?\nA large group of locals have done a very similar activity each spring for the last 20 years but have only focused on the River Park area. We feel this spring would be another great time to get outside and do something rewarding that everyone will appreciate immensely. DESCRIPTION:Young at Heart Field Trips 2026 \nPlease join BV Rec and Young at Heart for one or all of the fun\, social field trips taking place in 2026! Young at Heart is a social group for those aged 55+. These field trips are a great opportunity to get out with friends and be social. \nFor each field trip\, we will visit a location within the surrounding area and then eat lunch together as a group. BV Rec will provide transportation for the field trip. We will always meet at the BV Community Center (715 E Main St) and then return to the BV Community Center after. The locations and lunch spots are determined by the Young at Heart board. \nWednesday\, May 20th – Royal Gorge Regional Museum in Canon City \n$10 (includes transportation to and from Canon City) \nThe first Young at Heart Field Trip of 2026 will take us to the Royal Gorge Regional Museum in Canon City! The trip is scheduled for Wednesday\, May 20th. BV Rec will provide transportation to and from Canon City. Please meet at the Buena Vista Community Center (715 E Main St) at 8:00am. We will return to the Community Center around 3:00pm. We will spend time walking around the Museum and then will eat lunch at DiRito’s Italian Restaurant. The cost of $10 covers your transportation to and from Canon City. Lunch is NOT covered and everyone will need to pay for their own meal. Please give $10 (cash or check) to any Young at Heart board member or BV Rec staff member to reserve your spot! Space is limited to 14 participants\, so please reserve your spot soon! DESCRIPTION:Rockies Skills Challenge 2026 \nDate: Thursday\, June 4th from 5:30pm-7:00pm (Registration at 5:00pm) \nAges: 6-13 (as of August 1\, 2026: proposed date of the Rockies Skills Challenge State Competition) \nCost: FREE! \nLocation: Buena Vista High School Baseball Field \nThis event is Coed and is open to anyone who meets the age requirements. You don’t have to be playing Youth Baseball or Girls Softball this season to participate. \nThe Rockies Baseball and Softball Skills Challenge provides the youth of Colorado with a statewide baseball competition testing their skills in running\, hitting and throwing. See how fast you can run the bases\, how far you can hit\, and how far you can throw. There are four age divisions: 6/7\, 8/9\, 10/11 and 12/13 for both boys and girls. The top scorer in each age group will advance to a Sectional Competition\, with a chance to compete at the State Championship. \nThe BV Local Competition will be held Thursday\, June 4th at the High School Baseball Field in the Buena Vista River Park. Registration will be from 5:00-5:30pm\, and the Competition will begin at 5:30pm. The Competition typically lasts 1-2 hours\, including awards\, depending on the number of participants. \nNo metal spike shoes will be permitted. Only sneakers or plastic/rubber cleats. You are allowed to bring your own bat if you wish. This is NOT a program to teach kids how to ride a bike. Participants must already know how to ride a bike. The Intermediate Level is designed for kids who are ready to take their mountain biking to the next level. From learning new skills around town to putting those skills to the test on some of the region’s best mountain bike trails\, this course will push you to be your best. \nHave you been riding for years and are ready to take your skills to the next level? Then the Advanced Level camp is meant for you! The Advanced Level is designed for kids who have already completed an Intermediate Level with BV Rec in the past. Riders will be participating in inherently dangerous activities\, and for this level\, riders will have to be at least 10 years old. This level is meant for advanced and older riders due to the terrain and trails that will be enjoyed during this class. BV Rec reserves the right to move participants to different levels.  \nThe Beginner Level will consist of three\, 2-hour sessions and one\, 4-hour session and participants will stay in BV and utilize the BV River Park and Midland trails. The Intermediate Level and Advance Level will consist of four\, 4-hour sessions. The Intermediate and Advanced Level groups will utilize some BV trails\, and will also travel to Leadville\, Twin Lakes\, and Salida to introduce the participants to beginner/beginner-intermediate mountain bike trails that BV does not offer. In Leadville\, we will use the CMC Timberline trails\, in Twin Lakes\, we will use the Interlaken trail\, and in Salida\, we will use the Rainbow Spartan trails. This equates to a total of 10 hours for each beginner participant and 16 hours for each intermediate and advanced level participant.  \nDrop off and pick-up will take place at the Buena Vista Community Center (715 E Main St). The sessions will be led by experienced mountain bikers\, with additional help provided from various mountain bike experts and advocates from the local Buena Vista community. \nMinimum of 20” bikes with hand brakes and gears. Participants must have a bike-mounted water bottle or hydration pack. Helmets required; gloves recommended. Snacks are highly recommended and plenty of water is required.
