Now open in Buena Vista’s Sunset vista neighborhood

The Town of Buena Vista is proud to welcome the community to Billy Cordova Memorial Park, a new neighborhood park designed to bring people together through play, recreation, and connection.

Named in honor of fallen Chaffee County Fire Battalion Chief Billy Cordova, the park celebrates service, community, and inclusivity. The park features a universally designed playground with adaptive equipment, sensory play boxes, a labyrinth, nature exploration zone, adult fitness equipment, shade structures, picnic and gathering spaces, open green space, a multi-purpose sport court, and restroom facilities.

Designed for people of all ages and abilities, the park provides opportunities for active play, informal sports, quiet reflection, nature-based exploration, and community gatherings. The expansive lawn area encourages open play and recreation, while the concrete multi-purpose court supports a variety of casual sports and activities.

Billy Cordova Memorial Park is among the most accessible parks in the region, offering a wide range of inclusive and adaptive recreation amenities that help ensure everyone can participate and enjoy the space.

A Community Vision Realized

The need for a neighborhood park in western Buena Vista was first identified nearly two decades ago. Through the dedication of local residents, community volunteers, the Recreation Advisory Board, Town staff, and project partners, that vision has finally become a reality.

In 2022, the project gained momentum as the Town embraced a goal of creating a truly inclusive community park. Community support helped secure a $748,915 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), along with additional grants and local donations that made construction possible.

Today, Billy Cordova Memorial Park stands as a lasting tribute to Battalion Chief Cordova and a reflection of what can be accomplished when a community comes together around a shared vision.
