Youth Cross Country Ski Explorers – 2026
Please notice the new, updated dates for this program. We have made the decision to postpone the start of the program by two weeks due to the lack of snow at the Collegiate Peaks Campground. Our hope is that we will receive snow prior to the new starting date. We will reevaluate snow conditions on Wednesday, February 11th and alert all coaches and participants of the plan moving forward. Youth Cross Country Ski Explorers
Coed – Ages: 6-14 (as of 2/19/26 – first day of program)
$90 for registration – $30 for rental gear
Thursdays, 4:00-5:15pm – February 19-March 26 (6 Sessions)

Scholarships are available! The BV Recreation Scholarship Fund helps support community members, regardless of financial situation, by giving them the ability to participate in BV Recreation programs at no cost. Please apply for a scholarship today by following this link and submitting the online form!
Join experienced instructors from Buena Vista Mountain Adventures for the Youth Cross Country Ski Explorers program! Whether you’re new to the idea, or an experienced skier, come and join the fun of Cross Country Skiing!
Gear Rental is available for an additional $30, in a limited supply. After registering, we will reach out to parents that have requested to rent gear to set up a time to fit your children for their gear. The gear pickup day will take place on Friday, February 13th. The Youth Cross Country Ski Explorers Banquet will be held at the Community Center after the last day of skiing on Thursday, March 26th.
*Please note that we are limited to a max of 40 participants in the program due to a limited number of coaches. Participants are encouraged to sign up for the Waiting List if the program is full. Participants will be added to the program if more coaches for the program are found. Please contact Tucker Wildeson at 719-581-1051 or twildeson@buenavistaco.gov if you are interested in coaching.
A volunteer coaches meeting will take place on Thursday, February 12th at 6:00pm at the BV Community Center (715 E Main St). We highly encourage all volunteer coaches to attend this meeting, if possible. We will cover important information regarding the program to set you up for success as a cross-country ski coach. There will also be an optional field training for volunteer coaches on Sunday, February 8th at 1:00pm to learn how to properly teach the basics to the participants.
